After a fine amateur career, goaltender Pat Jablonski found his niche as an NHL journeyman in the 1990s. He suited up for five different teams, chiefly as a back up, but he did shine when given the opportunity to start in Tampa Bay.

The native of Toledo, Ohio played for the well-known Detroit Compuware team in the North American Junior League before joining the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL. He caught the eye of the St. Louis Blues and was selected 138th overall in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft.

In 1986-87, he and Robb Stauber split the goalkeeping responsibilities for the United States when they finished fifth at the World Junior Championships. The next year, he and Peter Ing backstopped the Spits to their first-ever appearance in the Memorial Cup final. Jablonski started his pro career with the Peoria Rivermen of the NHL before getting a chance to play in the NHL in 1989-90.

Jablonski played a handful of games for the Blues but enjoyed his greatest success in Peoria. In 1990-91, he and Guy Hebert shared the James Norris Memorial trophy for allowing the fewest goals in the IHL. In the fall of 1991 he was chosen to be the alternate goalie for Team USA at the Canada Cup.

The netminder's career took a turn for the better when he was traded to the expansion Tampa Bay Lightning in the summer of 1992. He posted a respectable 3.97 goals against mark in 43 games for the overmatched first-year club and then settled into a backup role to Daren Puppa the following season. Prior to the 1994-95 season, Jablonski was sold to the Toronto Maple Leafs as the Lightning were in need of cash after signing Denis Savard and Gerard Gallant.

Jablonski played well in pre-season but the Leafs were set in goal with Felix Potvin and Damian Rhodes. He spent the 1994-95 season in the minors then played for Team USA at that year's World Championships. He next played 40 games for the Montreal Canadiens over two seasons before spending a bit of time with Phoenix and Carolina. After spending the bulk of two years in the IHL, the veteran netminder headed overseas to play with the Swedish club Vastra Frolunda in 1999-00 and 2000-01.
