Rob Zamuner is a product of the Oakville minor hockey system, playing with the Oakville Oaks of the OMHA before moving on to the Guelph Platers of the OHL in 1986-87. He was the third choice, 45th overall of the New York Rangers in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft.

After three seasons with Guelph, Zamuner spent parts of three seasons in the minors with stops in Flint and Binghamton before making his NHL debut during the 1991-92 season. He recorded an assist in his NHL debut with the Rangers against the Calgary Flames and notched his first goal later on that season against the New York Islanders Glenn Healy.

In the summer of 1992, Zamuner signed as a free agent with the expansion Tampa Bay Lightning. He went on to play seven seasons with the Lightning and was named team captain in 1998-99. When he left the Lightning, Zamuner held the Tampa Bay club record for the most career games played with 475.

Zamuner was traded by the Lightning to the Ottawa Senators in the summer of 1999, and spent two seasons with the Sens before signing as a free agent with the Boston Bruins in the summer of 2001. During his third season with the Bruins in 2002-03, Zamuner surpassed 700 games played and registered his 300th career point.

His international hockey experience includes a gold medal with Canada at the 1997 World Championships. He was also a member of the Canadian teams at both the Olympic Winter Games and World Championships in 1998.
